NOTE: This is a casual position. Meaning there are no guaranteed hours. You are called in when someone is away from their regularly scheduled shift. Looking for staff who are available on short notice and can work 9-6pm. Individuals interested in being cross-trained as a causal housekeeper will be preferred.

What You’ll Do
As a Cook, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting clients nutritional requirements as they navigate the challenges of recovery. Your responsibilities will include:

· Prepare nutritious meals according to Canada’s Food Guide and the client’s dietary needs, specifically (e.g., diabetic, gluten-free, and nut allergies).

· Maintain food safety and public health standards.

· Monitor food inventory, minimize waste, and optimize grocery purchases.

· Ensure strict adherence to quality control standards and safety regulation.

· Prepare food and beverages in appropriate portion sizes.

· Report any unsafe conditions or maintenance concerns promptly.

· To ensure all ingredients and foods are stored properly.

· Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen area, including all dishes, utensils and equipment.

What We’re Looking For
You’re someone who cares deeply about helping others and creating healthy and nutritious meals. You have strong communication skills and can handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and empathy.

Qualifications and Experience

· Minimum of two (2) years of experience in commercial cooking preferred.

· Food Handler Certification required.

· Knowledge of safe food handling, proper nutrition, and dietary guidelines in relation to detoxification and rehabilitation process.

Skills and Attributes

To perform this job successfully, the cook must be able to perform his duty satisfactorily. The knowledge, skill, ability, and other attributes are needed to reflect for the listed below:

  • Safe Food Handling and Public Health requirements.
  • Canada’s Food Guide.
  • Pertinent public health legislation.
  • Understanding nutritional requirements and dietary restrictions related to detoxification and rehabilitation processes.
  • Use various cooking techniques (e.g., baking, grilling, sauteing) effectively.
  • Communicate in English and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Ability to solve challenges, improvise recipes when necessary, and resolve issues related to food preparation or kitchen operations.
  • Work with empathy and professionalism, even in challenging situations.
  • Enthusiastic about promoting healthy eating habits and supporting recovery processes.

Preferred but Not Required

· CPR and First Aid

· Professional Assault Response Training (PART)

· Mental Health First Aid

· TLR

· Food Safe Handling Certificate

· OHS Level 1, 2, WHMIS

Physical Demands:

· Require bending, stooping, standing, and walking for a lengthy period of hours during cooking on processes.

· Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 20lbs.

· Need to keep organized every equipment and utensils carefully in the right places.

· Efficiency to work in a high-temperature and busy period.

· Adaptability to shift work at the busy environment with flexible hours like in evening, weekends, and holidays.

· Requiring individuals to work efficiently and multitask while maintaining accuracy and diligence.

· Comply the personal hygiene standards, including wearing appropriate attire such as hairnets and non-slip shoes, and adhering to food safety protocols, is essential to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the kitchen environment and food products.

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $17.21-$19.19 per hour

Expected hours: 3 – 40 per week
